Our Family of Champions is getting bigger and better every year. Upon joining the team, you have extended your family by some 80+ people. Our goal is to get together, ski, perform, compete, and most of all have fun!
The unique style of our show encompasses theater, dance, gymnastics, and the most difficult water skiing maneuvers. Consistently crowned the most entertaining team in the nation, Badgerland thrills enthusiastic audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Our membership includes both skiing and non-skiing participants. A ski show production requires many people. Non-skiing members have roles on the team that include: boat / act driving, spotting/pinning, safety/pick up boat, dock crew, sound technicians, costume sewing and backdrop construction/painting.
A Typical Badgerland Year:
Throughout the off-season, we hold regular general membership meetings, fundraise for the upcoming ski season, work on props, costumes, backdrops, and show theme.
In May, we will begin our water practices. We typically practice on Monday evenings (in May until our first show, we practice on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as well). Our first show is Memorial Day. Our show season is from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We practice and ski at Frame Park in Waukesha. Our home shows are on Wednesday evenings.
Our ski team competes on the regional, state and national level. Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Tournament is held in July and National Ski Show Tournament (if we qualify) is held in August.
We also perform road shows including shows in Fowler Lake in Oconomowoc several times each summer; Hingham, Wisconsin; Thiensville at the Fun Before the Fourth Celebration; and Hamilton, Ohio for the Great Miami River Days Celebration.
You do not have to know how to ski to become a member. Although it is helpful to know how to ski, Badgerland teaches its members to become show skiers. There is no age limit to join. We have members aged 4 to 73. It is strongly recommended that children know how to swim.
Each skiing member providers his/her own floatation. The team provides costumes, skis and equipment to members for practices, shows and competitions.
All members have fundraising and dues requirements. Everyone on the team (skiing or non-skiing) must have USA Waterski Membership. This membership can be obtained by logging onto www.usawaterski.org
